Terms of use
In effect from 17 August 2026
The short version
haptonic is a set of instruments to fidget with. It is not a medical device or a treatment, and it makes no claim about your health. Nothing is sold in the app today. Installing or using it means you accept these terms.
The Safe use section below is the one worth reading properly — it describes things the app actually does.
Who I am
I am Jeremie Lim, the independent developer behind haptonic. I am based in the United States. These terms are an agreement between you and me.
Licence
I grant you a personal, non-transferable, non-exclusive licence to use haptonic on any Apple-branded device that you own or control, as permitted by the Usage Rules in the App Store Terms of Service. If Family Sharing is enabled, members of your family group may use it on the same basis, as may users covered by a volume purchase.
You may not sell, rent, sublicense, or redistribute the app or any of its instruments, sounds, or visual assets. You may not reverse-engineer, decompile, or disassemble it either — but where the law gives you interoperability or decompilation rights, those rights win.
What haptonic is, and what it is not
haptonic is a set of sensory instruments — things to look at, hear, and feel. It is not a medical device, a treatment, a diagnosis, or a substitute for professional care. It does not measure or assess your state, and it makes no claim about focus, calm, regulation, or any health outcome. If something in your life needs real support, this app is not it.
Concerns that involve possible harm to yourself or anyone else need human judgement and real-world support. The app is not built for that and cannot help with it.
Safe use
Movement. Ballast and Flux respond to the phone being tilted and moved. Keep hold of it, and stay where you are while you play — not walking, cycling, or driving.
Sound. Every instrument's volume sits in its Feel sheet and can be turned all the way down. haptonic plays through your device's Ring/Silent switch, so that switch does not mute it. The introduction makes sound before any Feel sheet is reachable, so it plays quietly. As with any app, listening loudly through headphones for a long time can damage your hearing.
Touch. Haptic strength can go all the way down to nothing on any instrument. Repetition is the point here, but if your hands, wrists, or eyes start to ache, put it down for a while.
Age
haptonic is a general-audience app. If you are under 18, a parent or guardian should read these terms and accept them on your behalf.
Changes to the app
The collection changes. I add instruments, refine them, and occasionally retire one that no longer earns its place.
Intellectual property
I own haptonic, its instruments, sounds, visuals, and name, or I licence them. This licence gives you the use of the app, not ownership of any part of it.
haptonic uses the typefaces Inter and Chakra Petch under the SIL Open Font License; each font file carries its own copyright notice and licence. It also uses Manrope V5 by Mikhail Sharanda, under its own licence agreement.
Feedback
If you send me an idea — by email, through TestFlight, or in a review — I may use it to improve the app without paying you. Please do not send anything you consider confidential.
Apple and the App Store
Apple requires the following terms:
- This agreement is with me, not Apple. Apple is not a party to it. I alone am responsible for haptonic and its contents.
- Support is mine, not Apple's. I am solely responsible for any maintenance or support for haptonic. Apple has no obligation to provide either.
- Warranty. I am solely responsible for any product warranties, whether express or implied by law, to the extent they are not effectively disclaimed below. If haptonic fails to conform to any applicable warranty, you may notify Apple, and Apple will refund the purchase price of the app to you if you paid one. To the maximum extent permitted by law, Apple has no other warranty obligation with respect to haptonic.
- Claims about the app. I, not Apple, am responsible for addressing any claim by you or a third party relating to haptonic or your use of it, including product liability claims, any claim that haptonic fails to conform to a legal or regulatory requirement, and claims arising under consumer protection, privacy, or similar legislation.
- Intellectual property claims. I, not Apple, am responsible for the investigation, defence, settlement, and discharge of any claim that haptonic infringes a third party's intellectual property rights.
- Where you are. You confirm that you are not located in a country subject to a U.S. Government embargo or designated as a terrorist-supporting country, and that you are not on any U.S. Government list of prohibited or restricted parties.
- Third-party terms. You must comply with any applicable third-party terms when using haptonic.
- Apple can enforce this. Apple and its subsidiaries are third-party beneficiaries of these terms, and Apple has the right to enforce them against you.
Disclaimers and liability
haptonic is provided "as is" and "as available", without warranties of any kind, whether express or implied, including implied warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, and non-infringement. I do not warrant that the app will be uninterrupted or error-free.
To the maximum extent permitted by law, I will not be liable for indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages, or for lost profits or data, arising out of your use of haptonic. My total liability to you for any claim relating to the app is limited to the greater of the amount you paid for it or ten U.S. dollars.
Nothing in these terms limits or excludes my liability for death or personal injury caused by my negligence, for fraud or fraudulent misrepresentation, or for anything else that cannot lawfully be limited or excluded. Your statutory consumer rights are unaffected. Some jurisdictions do not allow the exclusion of implied warranties or the limitation of certain damages, so parts of the two paragraphs above may not apply to you.
Ending this agreement
You can stop at any time by deleting the app. I may end this licence if you materially breach these terms. The sections on intellectual property, disclaimers, liability, and governing law still apply after this agreement ends.
If one part is invalid
If a court finds any part of these terms unenforceable, that part is treated as limited to the smallest extent needed to make it valid, or removed if it cannot be. The rest stays in force.
If I do not enforce something straight away, that is not me giving it up.
Governing law
These terms are governed by the laws of the State of California, United States, without regard to its conflict-of-law rules. If you are a consumer, this does not deprive you of the protection of the mandatory law of the state or country you live in, and you may generally bring proceedings there.
Changes to these terms
If I change these terms in a way that matters, I will say so in the app's release notes rather than quietly editing this page. The date this version took effect is at the top.
